The Wild Side

The Wild Side

One of life’s biggest joys to me is observing nature whether walking through a forest with someone special, out on a boat on the other coast as sea turtles emerge and flying fish say hi, or strolling Siesta Key Beach or Anna Maria Island as a storm is approaching. All make photography such a thrill!

I’m a lucky girl as most days I feel like Snow White as animals come to me. Well, I keep my eye out for animals all the time so it’s not really that I’m like Snow White. Last week it was an eagle sitting on the ground by my mailbox. Yesterday it was an osprey flying above me with a fish in its mouth. Yesterday afternoon it was a baby bunny grazing on some grass outside my office window. This morning a male cardinal greeted me at the door as I walked into work. A few moments ago we had another friendly visitor. This is the wild side shot for today!  Don’t you just love his little footprints all over our glass doors!?!

A mentor of mine in my photography club invited me out for a photo shoot and a bite to eat last night. We met at Ken Thompson Park by Mote Marine Laboratory and The Bait Shop. The weather turned tumultuous quite quickly and I thought about going home. But the water lover in me wanted to stay and play in the rain and get some shots no matter what. The wind rocked my car and the absolute downpour pounded down making it difficult to see or hear anything. It was so much fun! I was there with friends but was still alone which I enjoy. I saw a sailboat out in the distance and put my window down. The inside of my vehicle and everything on my passenger side got soaked but I love this shot. I thought about the sailor who owns the boat, the waters the boat may have traveled, the thrill of it and the next time it will be out again. It just spoke to me.

Line From A Song – Let Your Soul and Spirit Fly into the Mystic

Some places just feel like home. Some people just make you feel better by being near them. Some music just soothes your soul. I remember exactly where I was, the time of day it happened to be and who I was with when I heard this song playing for the first time not too long ago.

Into The Mystic – Van Morrison

We were borne before the wind

Also younger than the sun

Ere the bonnie boat was won

As we sailed into the mystic

Hark, now hear the sailors cry

Smell the sea and feel the sky

Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic

And when that foghorn blows

I will be coming home

And when the foghorn blows

I want to hear it

I don’t have to fear it and I want to rock your gypsy soul

Just like way back in the days of old

And magnificently we will flow into the mystic

When that foghorn blows

You know I will be coming home

And when that foghorn whistle blows

I got to hear it

I don’t have to fear it and I want to rock your gypsy soul

Just like way back in the days of old

And together we will flow into the mystic

Come on, too late to stop now

Places of Worship

Photographers always seem to have their favorite subjects of choice. For me, one of mine has always been places of worship. Before I even knew I liked photography, I had always stopped to capture such beautiful places on film.

This past Sunday, we were going to stay in Sarasota and attend mass but changed our minds and headed to my favorite place to worship which is Harvey Memorial Church located on Church Street on Bradenton Beach.  Pastor Stephen King, yes but not that one, shares his heart, time and talent with the lucky few. The Anna Maria Island community is lucky to have him as he doesn’t even reside on the island. He works full-time for Meals on Wheels in Tampa and drives down every Sunday to share his good word with us and his words are straight from his heart to ours. His sermons are extremely impactful and challenge you to become a better person. You can’t help but leave with a happier heart than what you arrived with.

I went to the alter after church ended and saw the stained glass window reflecting on The Bible.
